McDonald's Australia Revives Popular Korean BBQ Sauce in New Dunked Burger Range
McDonald's Australia Launches Dunked Korean BBQ Burger Range

McDonald's Australia is set to delight fast food enthusiasts with the highly anticipated return of a beloved condiment, now starring in an innovative burger lineup. Starting Wednesday, April 15, the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ sauce makes a comeback, last savoured by customers in December 2024. This sweet and spicy sauce, which gained popularity during its previous menu appearance two years ago, is not just returning as a dipping option but is also the centrepiece of a groundbreaking burger range.

A Saucy New Chapter for McDonald's Menu

Annabel Fribence, Chief Marketing Officer of McDonald's Australia, announced that the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ Chicken Range represents a significant evolution in the brand's offerings. She emphasised that McDonald's, renowned as a sauce haven, is pushing boundaries by fully immersing chicken fillets in sauce for the first time. This approach aims to deliver a novel burger experience, packed with maximum flavour and sauciness in every bite.

Introducing the Dunked Burger Varieties

The new range includes two distinct crispy chicken burgers: the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McCrispy and the Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McSpicy. Both feature 100% Australian chicken breast thoroughly coated in the signature sauce, offering a saucier alternative to traditional options.

  • Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McCrispy: This burger upgrades the original McCrispy by dunking the chicken in rich, sticky Korean BBQ sauce, complemented by fresh lettuce, creamy mayo, and a toasted potato bun.
  • Dunked Korean Sticky BBQ McSpicy: Retaining the classic trimmings of lettuce, mayo, and a sesame seed bun, this version adds a spicier twist with chicken immersed in a slightly hotter Korean sticky BBQ sauce.

For those who prefer the sauce on the side, it will remain available as a standalone dipping option, ensuring all preferences are catered to.

Celebrating with a Basketball-Themed Event

To mark the launch, McDonald's has partnered with the iconic Harlem Globetrotters for a special one-hour live fan event in Sydney, titled Macca's at Dunked Live. Scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at midday in Moore Park's Entertainment Quarter, this exclusive gathering requires registration via Eventbrite due to limited spots.

Event Highlights and Fan Engagement

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Harlem Globetrotters players, learn basketball tricks, and witness their gravity-defying performances. The event also features a free-throw challenge, with one participant crowned Dunked Live MVP and winning a unique burger-shaped championship ring made from 9-carat gold and lab-grown diamonds.

Kaylin 'Sunshine' West and Alex 'Moose' Weekes from the Harlem Globetrotters expressed excitement about engaging with fans and trying the new saucy burgers. They highlighted the event's focus on interactive fun and surprises, encouraging attendees to bring their "sauciest moves."

Availability and Customer Response

The Dunked range will be accessible nationwide from April 15 via drive-thru, front counters, and the MyMacca's app. This launch follows customer demand, with the Korean Sticky BBQ sauce being one of Australia's most requested condiments. McDonald's aims to enhance the dining experience by offering more sauce in every bite, a move expected to resonate with Aussie consumers.

As McDonald's continues to innovate its menu, this reintroduction underscores a commitment to flavour exploration and customer satisfaction, blending culinary trends with playful marketing initiatives.
