I tried the M&S Easter cookie dippy egg cheesecake – here’s my verdict. This is one of the most eye-catching launches from the supermarket’s Easter range – but how does it taste? These are selling out nationwide (Alice Reynolds/The Independent). M&S is taking Easter treats to another level this year. From pistachio goodies to loaded half shells, cornflake creations, inventive spins on hot cross buns (including a red velvet flavour filled with white chocolate), and a limited-edition cookie with its Easter speckled eggs, there’s plenty for chocolate lovers to get excited about.
A Sweet Spin on Classic Breakfast
Among the many tasty goodies in the Easter range, the dippy egg cookie cup caught my eye for its sweet spin on the classic English breakfast. The “egg cup” is a milk chocolate chip cookie, filled with white chocolate cheesecake for the egg white and topped with a mango and passion fruit compote yolk. Served with an all-butter shortbread “soldier” for dunking, it’s a fun twist on the classic breakfast.

How I Tested the Easter Treat
I noted taste, texture and value for money (Alice Reynolds/The Independent). I’ve tried a range of Easter treats from M&S this year, and the dippy egg cookie cup caught my eye. I sampled each element individually, the cookie-dough base, fruit compote and cheesecake layer, to assess balance, sweetness and texture, before tasting them together to see how well they worked as a whole.
Texture played a big role in the scoring, particularly how smooth and creamy the cheesecake was and whether the cookie base avoided being overly dense or sugary. I also considered the quality and intensity of the mango and passionfruit compote, looking for a natural-tasting sharpness that could cut through the richer layers. Finally, I judged the “dippy” element, the shortbread, on taste and novelty. Value for money, portion size and overall satisfaction were also taken into account.

M&S Dippy Egg Cookie Cup Details
Price per 100g: £2.7
Why we love it: Fun concept, zingy 'egg yolk'
Take note: Expensive for a small dessert
A playful spin on the staple breakfast, M&S’s cookie dippy egg cup delivers more than just novelty. The base leans into that familiar cookie-dough territory: sweet, buttery and lightly toasted with generous chocolate chunks that add both bite and richness.
The mango and passionfruit compote was bright, tangy and refreshingly sharp. It cuts cleanly through the sweetness, and I was overcome by the mango flavour. The concept is cute and satisfying (Alice Reynolds/The Independent).
The white chocolate cheesecake layer, though not overly chocolatey, is silky and creamy, tying everything together. Then there’s the shortbread “dippy” element, which adds a touch of theatre. Crumbly and buttery, it’s ideal for dunking into the cheesecake, creating a satisfying mix of textures that elevates the whole experience beyond a standard dessert pot.
For £3, the cookie cup is quite small (albeit rich). Overall, it's definitely an eye-catching concept and one that is sure to bring joy over the season. £3 from Ocado.com. Prices may vary. Back to top.
Is the M&S Dippy Egg Cookie Cup Worth It?
A cleverly designed dessert from the creative minds at M&S, the dippy egg cookie cup balances indulgence with brightness, and stands out for its mix of textures and flavours. The cookie-dough base brings comforting richness, while the tropical compote cuts through with just the right amount of zing. The white chocolate cheesecake is smooth and understated, and the dippy shortbread adds a fun, interactive twist. It’s not the most refined looking dessert on the market, but in a season all about indulgence – it hits the mark. The dessert was only scored down on size, as it’s pretty small in person.
How the M&S Dippy Egg Cookie Cup Was Tested
Taste: I judged how well the sweetness of the cookie-dough base worked with the tangy mango and passionfruit compote, and whether it felt indulgent without becoming overly sugary or cloying.
Texture: I was looking for a smooth cheesecake, chunky cookie base and satisfying overall mouthfeel.
Quality vs cost: I checked whether the cost felt reflected in the quality of ingredients.
