Nottingham Forest's bid for Premier League survival received a major boost as Vitor Pereira's side scored four goals in the first half against Sunderland on Friday night. The visitors, coming off a 4-1 win over Burnley, continued their free-scoring form with four strikes in the opening 37 minutes, leaving the Black Cats shell-shocked.
First-half blitz
Sunderland full-back Trai Hume put the ball into his own net to give Forest the lead. Then, three goals in six minutes from Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White, and Igor Jesus put Pereira's men in dreamland. The home fans booed their team off at halftime, with some heading for the exits before the whistle.
Relegation battle
Forest, who have sacked three managers this season, have been mired in a relegation campaign. However, if they avoid a disastrous second-half collapse, they will go eight points clear of Tottenham, who occupy 18th position. More to follow.
