Phil Foden is set to sign a new contract at Manchester City, committing his future to the Etihad Stadium until 2030 after reaching a provisional agreement with the Carabao Cup winners.
Contract Details
The England international's current deal expires next summer, but he will put pen to paper on a four-year contract with an option for an additional year. This move secures the services of one of City's most prized academy graduates, who has been with the club since the under-nine level.
Foden's Career at City
Foden has made 365 appearances for City, scoring 110 goals. At just 25 years old, he has already amassed an impressive trophy haul: six Premier League titles, five League Cups, two FA Cups, and the 2023 Champions League. He was named Footballer of the Year and PFA Player of the Year in the 2023-24 season, a campaign in which he scored a career-best 27 goals.
Recent Form Struggles
Despite his glittering achievements, Foden has endured a difficult two seasons. After a promising burst of six goals in five games during the autumn, he has failed to find the net in his last 25 appearances for City. This dip in form has seen him lose his place in the starting line-up, but the club remains committed to their academy product.
City's Long-Term Planning
Foden's new deal is part of a broader strategy by Manchester City to secure key players for the long term. He will join a growing list of stars contracted into the 2030s, including Erling Haaland, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nico O'Reilly, Marc Guehi, Antoine Semenyo, and Rayan Cherki. This comes as City prepare to lose captain Bernardo Silva and defender John Stones, who are set to leave in the summer.
By locking down Foden, City ensure they retain a homegrown talent who remains central to their future plans, even amid a challenging period in his career.
