Saudi Fund Withdraws from LIV Golf, Future Uncertain

LIV Golf is expected to announce on Thursday that Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) will withdraw its funding for the rebel golf league at the end of the current season. The league plans to reveal a “new strategic plan” focused on securing fresh long-term investment and confirming changes to its board members.

Yasir Al-Rumayyan, head of Saudi Arabia's PIF and a key figure in LIV Golf since its 2022 founding, is reportedly stepping down. The PIF has invested approximately $5bn into LIV Golf over four years, attracting top players with significant bonuses and prize money.

The future of star players, such as Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm, will depend on LIV Golf's ability to secure new financial backing. The announcement marks a pivotal moment for the breakaway league, which has shaken up the professional golf world.
