Chipotle Mexican Grill has announced the highly anticipated return of one of its most requested menu items, Chicken al Pastor, following significant customer demand expressed across social media platforms.
Limited-Time Return of a Fan Favourite
The popular protein option will make its comeback to Chipotle's menu starting February 10 for the general public. However, the restaurant chain is offering exclusive early access to its loyal customers through the Chipotle Rewards programme.
Exclusive Early Access for Rewards Members
Chipotle Rewards members will have the opportunity to order Chicken al Pastor one day earlier than the general public, on February 9, through the company's official app or website. This special privilege recognises the most enthusiastic fans who have been vocal about wanting the item's return.
The Story Behind Chicken al Pastor
Chicken al Pastor originally debuted three years ago as Chipotle's first global menu innovation and quickly developed a dedicated following. The dish features grilled chicken marinated in a distinctive blend of seared morita peppers and ground achiote, finished with fresh pineapple, lime juice and hand-chopped cilantro for a bold, sweet and smoky flavour profile.
Record-Breaking Customer Demand
According to company statements, Chicken al Pastor has generated more than twice as many social media requests for its return compared to any other limited-time offering in Chipotle's history. The item has been described as the chain's most-requested limited-time menu item, with thousands of customer comments and online petitions contributing to its revival.
"Chicken al Pastor built a passionate following, so we had to bring it back to the menu for our fans," stated Stephanie Perdue, Interim Chief Marketing Officer of Chipotle. "We've seen thousands of comments asking for its return because the unique, bold flavour goes perfectly with their favourite Chipotle order."
New Format and Nutritional Benefits
For this limited-time return, Chicken al Pastor will be available in Chipotle's new High Protein Cup format, which debuted in December and typically contains 4 ounces of adobo chicken or steak. This addition comes as high-protein diets continue to dominate American eating patterns, with approximately 70% of Americans prioritising protein intake and more than one-third increasing their protein consumption over the past year.
Nevielle Panthaky, Chipotle's Vice President of Culinary, recommends that first-time customers try a Chicken al Pastor burrito with classic toppings, which provides approximately 54 grams of protein and 22 grams of fibre according to company nutritional information.
Special Delivery Promotion
To celebrate the item's return, Chipotle will waive delivery fees on all Chicken al Pastor orders placed through its app and website between February 14 and February 28, providing additional incentive for customers to enjoy the limited-time offering.
International Availability and Future Menu Plans
Chicken al Pastor will be available at participating Chipotle locations across multiple countries including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany while supplies last. Customers can add the protein to their choice of burritos, bowls, tacos or salads.
This limited-time return marks the beginning of Chipotle's 2026 menu innovation strategy, which company executives indicate will include three to four limited-time protein offerings throughout the year, along with new sides and dips to complement the main menu items.
