Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has candidly shared his feelings about reaching the milestone age of 50, revealing a personal hope he's keeping from his wife and detailing ambitious plans for his culinary empire's revival.
A Milestone Birthday and a Secret Hope
Reflecting on his recent half-century, Jamie Oliver told the Mail that he feels significantly more relaxed and positive than he did a decade ago when he turned 40. The father-of-five admitted that his 40th birthday "really annoyed" him, but he now approaches life with a renewed readiness.
In a surprisingly personal revelation, the TV chef confessed: "And even though I would never tell my wife this, I’m really looking forward to grandchildren." Jamie shares five children with his wife Jools: daughters Poppy, 23, Daisy, 22, Petal, 16, and sons Buddy, 15, and nine-year-old River.
Business Resurgence: Jamie's Italian Returns
As he embraces his sixth decade, Oliver is also spearheading a major business comeback. Jamie's Italian, the restaurant chain that went into administration in 2019, is set for a high street return after six years.
The first new site will open in London's Leicester Square, with plans for further expansion. Jamie is personally designing the new menu, telling the BBC he believes now is the perfect time for a return, aiming to bring "excitement, surprise and delight" to the mid-market dining scene.
This venture follows the launch of his Covent Garden restaurant on Catherine Street earlier this year, which was reviewed by Reach Plc.
Health Focus and Future Outlook
The chef also discussed the importance of monitoring his health as he ages. He revealed that a medical check-up a year and a half ago prompted him to make changes, acknowledging the challenges of a profession centred around food. "I'm paid to eat. I do eat good stuff, but I eat too much of it. I'm greedy, I love it," he admitted.
With a refreshed perspective on life, a thriving family, and a resurgent business, Jamie Oliver appears to be entering his fifties with optimism and ambitious plans for both his personal and professional future.
