Sainsbury's Announces Revised Opening Hours for Easter Bank Holiday 2026
Sainsbury's has officially updated its opening times for the upcoming Easter weekend, providing essential information for shoppers planning their trips. The supermarket giant will implement significant changes across its larger stores, while smaller convenience outlets will maintain regular trading hours.
Key Dates and General Store Closures
This year, Easter falls with Good Friday on April 3, Easter Sunday on April 5, and Easter Monday on April 6. Sainsbury's has confirmed that all its larger stores in England and Wales will be closed for a full 24 hours on Easter Sunday, adhering to standard trading regulations. However, in Scotland, where different laws apply, shops are permitted to open, so customers should verify local hours.
Detailed Opening Times for Larger Sainsbury's Stores
On Good Friday, most larger Sainsbury's stores are scheduled to operate under normal hours, typically opening at either 6am or 7am and closing between 9pm and midnight. It is crucial for shoppers to check specific store times online, as variations may occur regionally. Then, on Easter Monday, the majority of these larger stores will open from 8am to 8pm, offering a shortened trading day compared to usual.
Convenience Store Hours for Sainsbury's Local
For smaller Sainsbury's Local convenience stores, normal trading hours will apply throughout the Easter weekend, including on Easter Sunday. These stores are legally allowed to open on Sundays, with most opening at 6am or 7am and closing between 9pm and 11pm. This provides flexibility for last-minute purchases or essential items during the holiday period.
Financial Boost for Sainsbury's Employees Through Sharesave Plan
In related news, more than 9,000 Sainsbury's workers are set to benefit from the maturation of the company's latest Sharesave plan. The Sharesave 2022 scheme matured on March 1, enabling staff to purchase Sainsbury's shares at a discounted option price. The majority of participants are store and depot employees, collectively holding around 15 million share options.
Sharesave allows employees to save directly from their pay, with the opportunity to buy shares at a reduced price upon maturity. Participants can then choose to retain their shares for long-term savings or sell them to realise profits. Sainsbury's emphasises that this initiative supports financial resilience and wellbeing, helping staff build savings for life events such as weddings or housing costs.
To assist employees in making informed decisions, Sainsbury's collaborated with Wealth at Work to provide financial education sessions. A spokesperson stated, "We're proud that more than 9,000 colleagues are seeing the benefit of their commitment to saving and being investors in Sainsburys, and we want to encourage even more of our colleagues to take part in Sharesave and share in our success in the future."
Shopping Tips and Promotional Offers
Alongside the Easter hours update, shoppers can explore various money-saving hacks, such as obtaining a Peppa Pig Tonie Character for free, purchasing a 'luxury' duvet set now priced at £40, enjoying 50% off the Neom Mother's Day set, and considering Next's stripe vase, described as 'perfect for spring'.
