A 70-year-old British tourist has been rushed to hospital after a dramatic fall from the second floor of a luxury Lanzarote hotel into a shallow fish pond. The incident occurred at the five-star H10 Rubicon Horizons Collection in the popular resort of Playa Blanca, prompting an emergency response from firefighters and medical teams.
Late-Night Emergency at Adults-Only Resort
The alarm was raised around 11:30pm on Saturday evening, when the holidaymaker reportedly lost his balance while peering down at a fish pond from a second-floor area. The pond, situated approximately two floors below street level near a hotel buffet restaurant, contained Koi carp and terrapins but was only about 15 inches deep, offering little cushioning for the fall.
Rescue Operation and Hospital Evacuation
Firefighters and medical staff were swiftly dispatched to the scene following the accident. Upon arrival, they found the elderly tourist already fitted with a neck brace by initial responders. The rescue team carefully lifted him out of the pond using a rescue board, securing him before transferring him to a waiting ambulance.
He was subsequently evacuated to Molina Orosa Hospital in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. As of the latest updates, his current condition remains unclear, with authorities treating the incident as an accidental fall.
Hotel Silence and Tourist Destination Details
The hotel, an adults-only seafront establishment that recently rebranded from H10 Rubicon Palace, has declined to comment on the incident, citing client confidentiality. Online, the property markets itself as an iconic five-star resort with interior design inspired by Lanzarote.
Playa Blanca, Lanzarote's southernmost town, is a favoured destination for British tourists, known for its scenic views and upscale accommodations. The regional government's emergency response coordination centre also mobilised local police and Civil Guard officers to assist in the aftermath of the fall.
