A young lifeguard has tragically died after being sucked into a pool's drainage system while trying to retrieve a tourist's ring at a popular water park in Brazil.
The Fatal Incident at Water Bomb
Guilherme da Guerra Domingos, aged 24, entered the water at the Wet'n Wild park in Itupeva on Tuesday. According to an official police report, he was attempting to recover a ring for a visitor when he became trapped underwater. The document confirms he was pulled into the attraction's drainage system and subsequently drowned.
The incident occurred at an attraction named Water Bomb. Colleagues raised the alarm when Guilherme, a sector leader at the park, failed to surface. Fellow lifeguards immediately entered the pool, managed to pull him out, and began administering first aid while emergency medical services were summoned.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Despite the swift rescue efforts, Guilherme was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Nossa Senhora Aparecida Municipal Hospital. The park's management informed police that he had worked there for just over two years and had been promoted to a leadership role in October of the previous year.
In a statement addressing the tragedy, Wet'n Wild claimed the Water Bomb attraction does not feature a bottom drain. They explained that its hydraulic system uses side drains positioned away from both the water slide exit and the area where visitors leave the pool.
Park Closure and Official Statements
Local authorities have stated that the park was operating with all required documentation in order, including a valid occupancy permit for each attraction and a current Fire Department Inspection Certificate. However, the park announced via social media on Wednesday that it would remain closed following the fatal accident.
The company has pledged its full support to Guilherme's grieving family and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Guilherme's body was taken to the Forensic Medical Institute in Jundiaí before being released for burial in his hometown of Bragança Paulista.
This devastating event has cast a spotlight on operational safety procedures at aquatic leisure facilities, raising urgent questions about the risks faced by staff performing routine duties.
