Andy Murray's Cromlix Hotel to Close for Major Spring 2026 Refurbishment
Murray's Cromlix Hotel to Close for Major Refurbishment

The award-winning Cromlix Hotel, owned by tennis legend Andy Murray and his wife Kim, is set for a significant temporary closure to facilitate a major multi-million pound refurbishment and expansion.

Temporary Closure and Renovation Timeline

The five-star hotel in Kinbuck, Perthshire, will shut its doors to guests from January 4, 2026. The extensive construction work is expected to last several months, with a planned reopening scheduled for spring, specifically May 2026. Despite the physical closure, the hotel's booking team and its online shop will continue to operate as normal.

The couple, who have owned the 34-acre estate since purchasing it for £1.8 million in February 2013, are overseeing the project. The hotel had been closed prior to their acquisition in 2012 and was reopened by the Murrays in April 2014.

Details of the Major Revamp

The renovation represents a substantial investment in the property's future. Central to the plans are two brand-new restaurants, construction on which began this past October. One of the new dining spaces will be capable of accommodating up to 80 guests and will offer views overlooking the scenic estate.

The hotel's kitchen facilities are being relocated and upgraded to serve the increased number of diners. The existing Glasshouse restaurant will be repurposed to host afternoon teas and private events. The overhaul will also introduce a dedicated wellness facility and three additional luxury suites, significantly enhancing the hotel's offering.

Leadership and Vision for the Future

The construction is being led by the Doune-based Kings Group, with design input from Perthshire architect Fergus Purdie and interior designer Suzanne Garuda. The project follows the appointment of a new executive head chef, James Mearing, earlier this year.

Speaking about the ambitious plans, Kim Murray expressed her excitement for this "next phase" for Cromlix. She noted that while the current Glasshouse restaurant is consistently fully booked, the space "lacks a bit of personality" compared to the rest of the hotel. She added that it would be fantastic for Chef Mearing to "put his stamp on this new food experience."

Since retiring from professional tennis last year, two-time Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has been able to devote more time to business ventures like Cromlix. The hotel has enjoyed considerable acclaim, being crowned Scottish Hotel of the Year at the 2024 AA Hospitality Awards and featuring in The Times' list of the top 100 places to stay in the UK.
