Second US Sphere Announced Near Washington D.C. in Global Venue Expansion
Second US Sphere venue announced for National Harbor

The entertainment group behind the revolutionary Sphere in Las Vegas has unveiled ambitious plans to expand its footprint, announcing a second venue for the United States. This move marks a significant step in the company's strategy to create a worldwide network of its cutting-edge immersive venues.

A New Sphere for the Capital Region

Sphere Entertainment Co. confirmed on Monday 19 January 2026 that it intends to build a new Sphere at National Harbor, a major entertainment complex in Maryland. The site is strategically located just 15 minutes from Washington, D.C., positioned along the scenic Potomac River.

The company stated that this venue is designed to be a major year-round attraction. It aims to captivate both local residents and the millions of tourists who visit the capital region annually with a diverse programme. This will include original Sphere Experiences, concerts, and exclusive brand events.

Specifications and Economic Impact

This planned venue represents a new, more intimate format for the Sphere concept. It is slated to feature approximately 6,000 seats, making it notably smaller than its Las Vegas counterpart but packed with the same technological prowess.

Key features will include the iconic Exosphere on its exterior, a massive 16K x 16K interior display plane, and the full suite of Sphere's advanced systems. Attendees can expect to experience the groundbreaking Sphere Immersive Sound, haptic seating, and immersive 4D environmental effects.

The project promises a substantial boost to the local economy. During construction, it is projected to support around 2,500 jobs. Once operational, the venue is expected to provide approximately 4,750 permanent jobs, a significant injection into the employment market.

Building a Global Network of Venues

This announcement is not an isolated development. Buoyed by the phenomenal success of the original Las Vegas Sphere, Sphere Entertainment has a clear vision for global expansion. The National Harbor site is positioned as the first of these new smaller-scale venues.

Furthermore, the company has already set its sights beyond the United States. A third Sphere venue is officially in the planning stages for Abu Dhabi, signalling a firm commitment to establishing an international circuit of these unique entertainment destinations. This global network aims to redefine live entertainment and immersive experiences on a worldwide scale.
