Air Canada Flight Attendant Endures Long Recovery After LaGuardia Airport Crash

An Air Canada flight attendant, who miraculously survived being ejected from a plane during a crash at LaGuardia Airport, is now confronting a prolonged and challenging recovery process. Sarah Tremblay was onboard Air Canada Jazz flight 8646 from Montreal to New York's LaGuardia Airport on March 22 when the aircraft collided with a fire truck on the runway, resulting in a devastating accident.

Horrific Injuries and Medical Complications

Tremblay sustained severe injuries in the crash, including two shattered legs that required multiple surgeries and the insertion of metal plates. She also suffered a fractured spine and extensive skin damage necessitating grafts, with doctors highlighting a significant risk of infection. During her initial surgery, a complication arose, forcing her to undergo an emergency blood transfusion to stabilise her condition.

Her daughter, Sarah Lepine, has described the incident as a "horror," noting that Tremblay was found wounded and still strapped in her seat on the tarmac after being flung an astonishing 320 feet from the aircraft. This survival has been termed a "miracle" by family members, given the extreme forces involved in the crash.

Community Support and Investigation

To aid in her mother's extensive recovery and rehabilitation, Lepine launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has rapidly garnered nearly $140,000 in donations, approaching its $160,000 target. The funds are intended to cover medical expenses, long-term care, and therapy as Tremblay navigates her path to recovery.

The crash, which claimed the lives of two pilots, marks the most serious incident at LaGuardia Airport in decades and the first fatal one in over 30 years. The National Transportation Safety Board has initiated a thorough investigation to determine the causes and contributing factors behind this tragic event.

As Tremblay continues her hospital stay in New York, her family remains hopeful but realistic about the arduous journey ahead, emphasising the need for ongoing support and medical attention to address her complex injuries.
