Sky Sports has signed a new contract extension with Formula 1 to broadcast every grand prix in the United Kingdom until 2034, extending their partnership to over 20 years. The broadcaster has held exclusive live rights since 2012, when it took over from the BBC, and launched a dedicated F1 channel at that time.
Deal Details and Free-to-Air Coverage
The previous agreement was set to expire in 2029, but the new deal ensures Sky remains the home of F1 for another five years beyond that. Highlights will continue to be available on free-to-air television, with Channel 4 currently holding that package. Additionally, Sky’s contract to broadcast F1 in Italy has been extended until 2032.
Reactions from Key Figures
F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali expressed delight at the extension, stating: “Sky has always been a dedicated, trusted and passionate partner since we began our relationship many years ago. Their world-leading approach to live broadcasting, content creation, behind-the-scenes analysis led by a truly amazing group of on-screen talent has made the difference in continuing to grow our sport in the UK, Ireland and Italy.”
Dana Strong, Group CEO of Sky, added: “We’re proud of the role we’ve played in supporting the sport’s growth through world-class storytelling, innovation and long-term investment. This new agreement secures Sky as the home of Formula 1 for years to come, as the sport enters an exciting era with more British talent on the grid and rising stars like Kimi Antonelli.”
Star Pundits and On-Site Coverage
Sky Sports boasts an array of star pundits, including Martin Brundle, Nico Rosberg, and Jenson Button, and broadcasts on-site from every race on the calendar. The dedicated F1 channel was a pioneering move that has since been replicated with Sky’s football, cricket, golf, and tennis offerings.
