A British woman has been sentenced to six years and eight months in a Peruvian prison after attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country. Lisa Stocker, 54, was caught at Lima Airport with 3kg of the drug concealed in her luggage.
Stocker, who claimed she was forced into carrying the drugs due to financial difficulties, was arrested in November 2023. Authorities discovered the cocaine hidden in false compartments within her suitcase during a routine check.
A Desperate Decision
According to reports, Stocker told investigators she had fallen on hard times and was offered money to transport the drugs. However, Peruvian officials dismissed her claims, stating she was fully aware of her actions.
"This is a serious crime with severe consequences," said a spokesperson for the Peruvian National Police. "We have zero tolerance for drug trafficking, regardless of the circumstances."
Harsh Conditions Await
Stocker will serve her sentence in a Peruvian prison, known for its tough conditions. British consular officials have confirmed they are providing assistance but emphasized that they cannot interfere with the judicial process of another country.
This case serves as a stark warning to others considering similar actions. Drug trafficking carries heavy penalties worldwide, and foreign nationals are not exempt from prosecution.
