Hundreds of police officers have flooded the streets of Liverpool in a significant crackdown on criminal activity, with approximately 300 Merseyside Police officers and staff participating in the large-scale operation. Early on Wednesday morning, a convoy of police vehicles was observed departing from the force's headquarters, heading towards the Anfield area to target individuals involved in various offences.
Major Police Action Targets Criminal Networks
This day of action marks the second such operation since Chief Constable Rob Carden assumed his role in September last year, fulfilling his pledge to remove those engaged in criminality from the streets. The operation involved the execution of fourteen search warrants, with additional activities including land and underwater searches, roadside operations, and the pursuit of suspects wanted for crimes such as domestic abuse, fraud, and drug-related offences.
Force Leadership Issues Stern Warning
Chief Constable Rob Carden emphasised the scale and impact of the operation, stating, "The scale and impact of today’s operation should leave criminals in absolutely no doubt – we are here, we are watching and, if you are involved in criminality, you can expect a knock on your door." He further expressed the force's complete and utter contempt for criminals while highlighting the compassion and support offered to the community.
Mr Carden added, "Our message to criminals is clear – we don’t want them in our communities and we will be relentless in our pursuit of them. The protection of the public is a vital part of today and we will be supporting and safeguarding vulnerable victims, alongside our partners including Liverpool City Council and local charities and support services."
Local Authorities Back Police Efforts
Liam Robinson, the leader of Liverpool City Council, voiced strong support for the police action, remarking, "The action being taken by Merseyside Police today is vital to protecting our neighbourhoods and preventing harm. I want to thank Merseyside Police and all our partners for their hard work and dedication in delivering this operation." He stressed that the safety and wellbeing of communities remain the top priority, warning criminals that there is no hiding place.
Operation Aims to Lock Down Area
The large-scale operation is designed to effectively lock down the Anfield area, allowing officers to concentrate their efforts on targeting criminal elements. This proactive approach follows a similar operation in December, which took place in Stockbridge Village and Huyton and resulted in 49 arrests, demonstrating the force's ongoing commitment to tackling crime across Merseyside.
Residents in Liverpool can expect to see heightened police presence throughout the day, as teams conduct thorough searches and engage in community outreach. The operation underscores Merseyside Police's strategy to combine enforcement with support for vulnerable individuals, ensuring a comprehensive response to criminal activities.
