A man has tragically died following a serious collision on the A14 in Suffolk, causing significant disruption and delays for motorists this evening.

Crash Details

The incident occurred at approximately 9:15am on Monday, 27 April, on the westbound carriageway near Nacton, between junctions J57 and J56 (Orwell Bridge), close to Ipswich. The collision involved a silver Ford S-Max and a lorry.

Emergency Response

Emergency services, including Suffolk Police, ambulance crews, and Suffolk Fire and Rescue, attended the scene. Despite their efforts, the driver of the car was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Road Closures and Delays

The A14 is currently closed westbound between J57 and J56, while the eastbound carriageway is also shut at J57 to assist with emergency operations. National Highways has confirmed that the road will remain closed throughout the evening for collision investigation work, with no estimated time for reopening.

Severe delays are reported on the approach to the eastbound closure, with queues stretching up to 3 miles and delays of up to 60 minutes. On the westbound approach at J57, there are around 2 miles of queuing traffic.

Official Statements

Suffolk Police issued a statement saying: 'A man has died following a two-vehicle collision on the A14 at Nacton. Police were called at just after 9am this morning, Monday 27 April, to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a silver Ford S-Max on the westbound carriageway. Ambulance and Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews were also in attendance but the driver of the car was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.'

National Highways added: 'Suffolk Police have advised that the road will remain closed throughout the evening for collision investigation work at the scene with no times for the reopening at this stage.'

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
