Armed police were deployed to a serious incident in Birmingham on Tuesday after a man was stabbed and seriously injured near a primary school during lunchtime. West Midlands Police confirmed that a 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing and is currently in police custody.
School Lockdown and Witness Accounts
A nearby school on Bridge Road in the Alum Rock area was placed in lockdown as a precautionary measure after witnesses reported seeing a man stabbing another man in the street shortly after midday. The force also reported that a woman sustained injuries in the incident, although they were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police Response and Community Reassurance
Detective Superintendent James Munro stated: "We believe this to be a contained incident with a man in custody. We understand how deeply distressing and concerning this incident is and we will have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance to the community." Police are reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to individuals in the area as part of their investigation.
