Man Arrested for Arson After Explosion Destroys Lancashire Village Home
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a devastating explosion that completely gutted a house in a quiet Lancashire village this morning. The incident occurred on Carr Lane in Hambleton, prompting a major emergency response and the evacuation of neighbouring properties.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the blaze at approximately 9:51am on Friday, March 27. Four fire crews from Preesall, Bispham, Fleetwood, South Shore, along with an aerial ladder platform from Blackpool, attended the scene. Firefighters reported that the fire involved an explosion within a domestic premises and utilised two jets and two breathing apparatus to combat the flames.
The North West Ambulance Service deployed significant resources, including advanced clinicians, operational commanders, an air ambulance, and the Hazardous Area Response Team. One patient—the 54-year-old suspect—was taken to hospital for further assessment with minor injuries. Authorities confirmed that no other individuals suffered injuries during the incident.

Lancashire Police confirmed the arrest and stated that the man is currently being held in custody. A police spokesman emphasised that a small number of surrounding properties have been evacuated and Carr Lane remains closed while emergency services work to ensure the area's safety. The incident is being treated as isolated, with no believed links to the local gas network, and an investigation is underway.
Aerial photographs revealed the extensive damage, showing the entire side wall of the house completely destroyed, with rubble strewn across the lawn of the rural property. A cordon was established around the area as emergency services continued their operations throughout the morning.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service issued a public advisory, urging residents to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work safely and efficiently. They specifically warned: "If you can see or smell smoke, please keep all windows and doors closed as a precaution." Road closures remain in effect as crews continue to attend the scene.
