British Airways Crew Hospitalised After Consuming Passenger's Marijuana Gummies

Three British Airways cabin crew members were reportedly rushed to hospital after they were given marijuana gummies by a passenger. The incident occurred following a flight from Heathrow to Los Angeles last week, with the crew consuming the edibles only after the aircraft had landed safely in the United States.

Out-of-Body Experiences and Panic

The British Airways crew members are said to have experienced 'out-of-body experiences' after unknowingly consuming the weed-laced gummies. According to sources, the edibles contained up to 300mg of THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana, making them extremely potent.

'It is a godsend in this case the sweets in question were not shared out among the crew until they had arrived in the US,' one source told The Sun. 'They were consumed in the crew bus after touchdown, and tired staff gratefully gobbled them up. Almost immediately BA staff realised something was wrong.'

By the time the group reached their crew hotel, three staff members who had consumed numerous sweets began suffering severe symptoms. 'They felt totally out of control and became panicked and scared,' the source added. Their condition worsened, leading to hospital treatment for the affected individuals.

Flight Operations and Investigation

Fortunately, the crew only started eating the edibles after the flight from Heathrow had landed in LA, preventing any in-air incidents. A whole new team was assembled for the return flight to ensure continuity of service, and the affected crew members were flown back to the UK on a separate service days later as passengers.

British Airways has confirmed that there was no impact on customers, with a spokesperson stating: 'A small number of our crew reported feeling unwell at their hotel and have since recovered. We sent a replacement crew to operate the return flight and there was no impact on our customers.'

An investigation has now been launched by British Airways to identify the passenger who provided the marijuana edibles. The airline is treating the matter 'very seriously', with sources indicating that the individual 'could face multiple police charges' for distributing the illicit substances.

Safety and Legal Implications

This incident highlights significant safety concerns within the aviation industry regarding crew welfare and passenger conduct. The high THC content of the gummies, up to 300mg, poses serious health risks, particularly when consumed unknowingly by individuals who may not be accustomed to such substances.

Key points from the incident include:

  • The crew consumed the gummies post-flight, avoiding potential mid-air emergencies.
  • Hospitalisation was required due to severe psychoactive effects, including panic and loss of control.
  • British Airways acted swiftly to replace the crew and maintain operational integrity.
  • Legal repercussions are anticipated for the passenger involved, with possible criminal charges.

The airline's proactive response and ongoing investigation underscore the gravity with which such breaches of safety and protocol are regarded, ensuring that similar occurrences are prevented in the future.
