The suspect was arrested just one mile from the scene a mere seven minutes after the crash occurred.

Dharma Mundell, a 26-year-old who works at a newsagent just metres from where the incident occurred, described hearing a loud bang followed by screaming and crying. "I was in pure shock," she recounted. "I heard banging and screaming and then I came out and there's ambulances and police everywhere. It was a big shock."
Mundell witnessed emergency responders treating a woman with a neck brace and blood dripping from her head. "This guy literally just sped up the road, straight onto the curb, straight through people," she said. "He literally just ploughed through the people. I've just seen a bunch of people on the road and he's ploughed through them."
Local Business Response
Calum Green, assistant manager at the Bishop Blaise pub where the incident occurred outside, said ambulance sirens alerted him to the crash. "He mounted the kerb once. We closed the doors and kept everyone inside as we didn't know what happened," Green explained, describing how the car came "right onto the pavement" where a group of people were standing.

Nadine Peatfield, leader of Derby City Council, described the crash as "horrific" and announced that Friar Gate would be closed to cars during the upcoming Easter bank holiday weekend.
