One person has died following a fiery crash into a health club in Portland, Oregon, early Saturday, with authorities revealing that evidence of an explosive device was discovered inside the vehicle.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 a.m. at the Multnomah Athletic Club, a historic institution founded in 1891 that describes itself as the largest private athletic and social club in the United States, boasting over 21,000 members. The Portland Police Bureau stated that the deceased individual was found within the vehicle after the fire had been brought under control.

Adam Linnman, a spokesperson for the club, confirmed in a statement that the crash happened while the facility was closed, and no club members or staff sustained injuries. He added that club officials are deferring to local and federal authorities for further information.
