Goulburn Murder: Body Found After Five Days in Alleged Love Triangle Killing
In a chilling case that has shocked the community of Goulburn, New South Wales, the body of a 48-year-old woman was discovered with multiple stab wounds after lying undiscovered in a house for five days. Sharn Dee Cook was allegedly murdered in a domestic violence incident linked to a lovers' triangle involving her ex-partner and a neighbour.
Dramatic Arrest and Discovery
NSW Riot Squad police forced entry into a Joshua Street home in Goulburn on Thursday morning, battering down the door to arrest Stephen Henry Evans, 44, and Anne-Marie Streek, 40, also known as Annie Ringuett. The couple were handcuffed and led away before astonished residents in a dramatic scene captured by onlookers.
This followed an earlier welfare check on January 3 at 7am, when police were called to the neighbouring house. Officers forced entry and located Ms Cook's body with multiple stab wounds. Detectives allege she had been murdered on December 30, meaning her body had been decomposing in the house for five days before discovery.
Relationship Breakdown and Alleged Motive
Superintendent Joe Doueihi revealed that Ms Cook had been in a long-term relationship with Anne-Marie Streek for several years before it ended in May last year. The women had lived together at the Joshua Street address where Ms Cook's body was found. Following the breakup, Ms Streek reportedly began a relationship with next-door neighbour Stephen Evans.
Police are still investigating the precise motive behind the alleged murder, but confirmed it was being treated as a domestic violence-related homicide. The alarm was raised by a friend of Ms Cook after she failed to turn up to an appointment.
Post-Murder Movements and Missing Pet
Detectives allege the accused couple visited Lake Burrinjuck near Yass between December 31 and January 3, driving a light blue Toyota Camry with registration CJ49XV and towing a small white fishing boat. Police are seeking any information relating to their movements during this period.
Adding to the tragedy, Ms Cook's dachshund is believed to be missing from the home. Residents have reported the pet's disappearance, though its current whereabouts remain unknown.
Forensic Investigation and Court Proceedings
After arresting Streek and Evans, forensic police spent two days seizing alleged evidence from the crime scene. The thorough investigation included detailed examination of the property where Ms Cook's body was found.
Both accused have been charged with domestic violence-related murder and faced Goulburn Local Court on Friday, where they did not apply for bail. They are due to appear before the same court on April 15 for further proceedings.
Heartbreaking Social Media History
Despite changing her Facebook profile picture to one of herself with a man, possibly Evans, Streek kept photographs on her page of herself and Ms Cook with their arms around each other. In posts made in April 2022, three years before their split, Ms Cook wrote emotionally: "Baby I will always be there right by your side, as I said in my vows, I'm always going to be there in all things good or bad."
Streek had replied at the time: "Thanku 4 still being here 4 me even at my worst, I know we have been going through alot but thanku 4 still making sure I was ok." These poignant exchanges now stand in stark contrast to the violent allegations that have emerged.
Superintendent Doueihi confirmed the victim and accused woman had shared the Joshua Street address where the body was discovered, highlighting the domestic nature of this tragic case that has left the Goulburn community reeling.
