Groom Arrested for Murder After Fatal Bachelor Party Shooting in Oklahoma
A bachelor party celebration in Broken Bow, Oklahoma, ended in tragedy when the groom allegedly shot and killed a friend, leading to his arrest for second-degree murder, according to police reports and local media.
Deadly Incident at Airbnb Cabin
Police responded to reports of a shooting early Saturday at a home in Broken Bow, where they discovered 21-year-old Braden Uhlmann suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation confirmed that Uhlmann was transported to a local hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
At the scene, special agents interviewed 22-year-old Nolan Engel, who was staying at an Airbnb cabin with friends for his bachelor party trip. Engel is now accused of fatally shooting Uhlmann.
Spontaneous Confession to Officers
Court documents reviewed by local outlet KXII reveal that Engel made spontaneous statements to arriving officers, identifying himself as the shooter. The documents allege that Engel fired a handgun after hearing knocking and seeing someone's shadow outside the cabin.
Engel and a friend reportedly went outside afterward and found Uhlmann with a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers subsequently arrested Engel, and he was booked into the McCurtain County Jail on charges of second-degree murder.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation stated that there were no other injuries reported and emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing. Engel has since posted a $250,000 bond, according to KXII reports.
The Independent contacted the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office and Engel's attorney for comment, but the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation declined to provide additional details. Broken Bow, located in southeastern Oklahoma more than 200 miles from Oklahoma City, is described on the city's website as a major tourist area.
This incident highlights the devastating consequences of what was intended to be a celebratory bachelor party, now marred by violence and legal proceedings.
