A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor near his new home on the Sandringham Estate, Norfolk Police have confirmed. The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Wolferton, close to the former Duke of York's Marsh Farm property.
Details of the Incident
According to reports, Andrew was walking his dogs when he was confronted by a balaclava-clad man sitting in a car. The suspect allegedly spotted the disgraced former prince approximately 50 yards away, exited his vehicle, and approached Andrew while shouting at him. Norfolk Police responded to a call shortly after 7:30 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following reports of a man behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers arrested the individual on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King's Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and remains in custody.
Background on Andrew's Security and Residence
The late Queen's second son receives an annual stipend from his brother, King Charles III. This includes an allowance for private security costs, though it is understood that the former duke decides how to use these funds. Andrew moved out of Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park—a 30-room property he had occupied on a peppercorn rent for decades—earlier this year. He relocated to Marsh Farm on the King's private Sandringham Estate. The five-bedroom house, renovated for Andrew, sits on the vast 20,000-acre estate, approximately 500 metres from Wolferton village and 4 km from the King's Sandringham House.
Previous Legal Issues
Andrew was arrested in February on his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office, following allegations that he shared sensitive information with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as the UK's trade envoy. The King stripped him of both his princely title and dukedom last year due to his association with Epstein. Virginia Giuffre, who died by suicide in 2025, alleged she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times, including when she was 17, after being trafficked by Epstein. Further allegations include a claim that a second woman was sent to the UK for a sexual encounter with Andrew, and that Andrew and Epstein requested a threesome from an exotic dancer at Epstein's Florida home. Andrew has denied any wrongdoing regarding his links to Epstein and Ms Giuffre but has not directly responded to the latest allegations. Buckingham Palace declined to comment, and Andrew's representatives have not yet responded to a request for comment.
