Man faces multiple charges in connected London crimes
A 40-year-old man has been charged with murdering two women and raping another in separate incidents across London, with police now treating all cases as part of a single investigation.
Simon Levy from Tottenham will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday regarding the death of Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo, 53, whose body was discovered in south London in March.
Levy was already facing charges for the murder of Sheryl Wilkins, 39, whose body was found on Tottenham High Road in September, and for the rape and grievous bodily harm of another woman in January.
Complex police investigation continues
The Metropolitan Police have described the investigation into Levy as "one of great complexity" and are urging potential victims or witnesses to come forward.
Met Commander Clair Kelland stated: "We believe there may be people who are aware of Levy who have not yet made a report to the police. Whether you are a victim-survivor, or someone with information, we urge you to come forward and speak to us."
Police were initially called on 17 March to reports of an unresponsive woman at a property on the Aylesbury Estate in south London, where Valencia-Trujillo was found dead.
The cause of her death could not be determined initially, leading to Levy's arrest on 1 April on suspicion of her murder. He was subsequently released under investigation.
Further charges emerge
The case expanded when Wilkins' body was discovered on 24 August on Tottenham High Road. Levy was arrested for her murder more than a week later.
On 4 September, Levy was re-arrested in connection with Valencia-Trujillo's death and charged with Wilkins' murder on 7 September.
While in custody, he faced additional charges relating to an incident on 21 January involving another woman in High Road, Tottenham. These charges include:
- Two counts of rape
- Grievous bodily harm
- Intentional suffocation
All three cases are now being treated as part of a single, joined investigation by Metropolitan Police detectives.
Levy is scheduled to appear at the Central Criminal Court on Wednesday for a pre-trial hearing regarding the charge of murder in relation to Sheryl Wilkins' death.
Police continue to work closely with partners across relevant boroughs, including Haringey and Southwark, to encourage reporting and raise awareness of support available to victim-survivors.
