A man in his 40s has tragically died after falling several floors within a Birmingham bar during the Bank Holiday weekend. The incident took place at Henman & Cooper, a rooftop bar located in the city centre, at approximately 6.20pm on Sunday.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Colmore Row, where the man was found to have fallen a number of floors inside the building. He was rushed to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. West Midlands Police have confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A police spokesperson stated: 'We were called to Colmore Row, Birmingham city centre, at around 6.20pm yesterday (May 3) after a man fell a number of floors within a building. The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital but has since sadly died. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this awful time. The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.'
In response to the incident, Henman & Cooper announced on social media that the venue would remain closed for the remainder of Sunday due to 'unforeseen circumstances'. The bar posted: 'Dear guests, due to unforeseen circumstances Henman & Cooper will be closed this evening [Sunday, May 3]. We apologise and appreciate your understanding. We look forward to welcoming you back soon, Thank you, Team H&C.'
Police cordoned off the building on Colmore Row as investigations were carried out. The man's next of kin have been informed, and support is being provided to them. The tragedy has shocked patrons and staff alike, as the bar is a popular destination in Birmingham's nightlife scene.
