A tragic inquest has revealed that a mother of three was found deceased inside a freezer at her own residence in Wakefield. The body of Carolann Barraclough was discovered by West Yorkshire Police and paramedics on the morning of March 6 at her home address.
Investigation Details
A post-mortem examination conducted shortly after the discovery indicated the cause of death as blunt force head trauma, with authorities noting that further investigation is required to confirm the exact circumstances. The inquest at Wakefield Coroner's Court was informed that it appeared Ms. Barraclough had been located within a freezer at the property.
Legal Proceedings
In a swift development, her husband, David Barraclough, was charged with her murder the following day. He made an initial appearance at Leeds Magistrates' Court earlier this month. Coroner Oliver Longstaff stated during the inquest that no findings of fact were being made at this stage, and he subsequently suspended the coronial investigation due to the ongoing criminal case.
Community and Family Response
The local community has been deeply affected by this incident. Flowers and cards left at the scene on Ken Churchill Drive described Carolann Barraclough as a 'beautiful and amazing sister' with a lovely smile. Her family has expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support through messages, cards, and floral tributes during this difficult time.
Police Statement
DCI Stacey Atkinson of the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team addressed public concerns early in the investigation, stating, 'We recognise this incident will cause concern locally and I can advise residents we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the matter.' This reassurance was provided to alleviate fears within the Wakefield area as the legal process continues.
