New Video Footage Reveals Phone Snatch Sparked Mid-Air Brawl on Jet2 Flight
Newly released video footage has captured the explosive moment a chaotic mass brawl erupted between British passengers aboard a Jet2 flight from Turkey to Manchester. The shocking incident forced the aircraft to make an emergency diversion, with dramatic scenes unfolding mid-air as passengers screamed, exchanged blows, and wrestled violently in the aisle.
How the Altercation Began
The fresh video evidence reveals the brawl originated when a male passenger, standing in the plane aisle, appeared to attempt to snatch a mobile phone from a seated woman who was filming a tense encounter. According to passenger accounts, one of the individuals later detained had been consuming alcohol heavily and making racist remarks prior to the escalation.
The footage clearly shows the man trying to wrest the phone from the woman's hands after noticing her recording. Another male passenger swiftly intervened, while a woman shouted, 'Get off her.' In retaliation, the first man snatched the second man's glasses from his face, prompting a forceful shove.
Chaos Erupts Mid-Flight
Multiple passengers and cabin crew initially attempted to calm the situation, but a third man joined in by shoving the would-be phone snatcher, triggering complete pandemonium. During the ensuing altercation, a woman could be heard screaming as a female flight attendant rushed to separate the combatants.
One man placed another in a headlock, and terrified families and elderly travellers reportedly became caught up in the disorder. Witnesses described seeing blood on seats and teeth scattered on the floor, with several passengers providing basic first aid to those injured.
Emergency Diversion and Aftermath
The flight was diverted to Brussels on Thursday evening, where police boarded the aircraft upon landing and took two individuals into custody. One traveller recounted, 'At one point it became very physical. Passengers were distressed. People were frightened. The atmosphere turned chaotic.'
Another passenger praised those who stood against the racism, stating, 'Respect to the passengers who stood up against the racism, including the kind person who sat with and comforted those shaken. The Jet2 crew dealt with the situation calmly and professionally.'
The pilot later informed passengers that in his thirty years of flying, he could count his emergency landings on one hand and had never witnessed such a violent incident. The aircraft eventually continued its journey to Manchester following the unscheduled stop.
Jet2 condemned the behaviour as 'appalling' and confirmed that those involved would face lifetime bans from the airline.
