Police forces across England and Wales are currently arresting approximately 1,000 suspected paedophiles every single month, while simultaneously safeguarding more than 1,200 children from potential harm. This staggering enforcement effort comes as the Lucy Faithfull Foundation (LFF), a leading child protection charity, reports a significant 20 per cent increase in individuals accessing its crucial Stop It Now helpline services during 2025.
Record-High Demand for Preventative Services
The LFF charity revealed that a total of 330,610 people sought support through its services in 2025, highlighting a growing awareness and need for intervention. Assistant Chief Constable Becky Riggs of the National Police Chiefs' Council emphasised that while law enforcement is critical, it cannot keep pace with the scale of the issue alone. She stressed the indispensable role of preventative measures, stating that services like Stop It Now are vital in stopping abuse before it occurs.
Breaking Stereotypes Around Offenders
Dr Alexandra Bailey, a spokesperson for the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, provided crucial insights into the profiles of those accessing help. She noted that individuals who view child abuse images often defy common stereotypes, with many being young adults, in committed relationships, or even parents themselves. This challenges preconceived notions and underscores the complexity of addressing such harmful behaviours within diverse communities.

The charity is issuing a strong appeal to the public, urging anyone who is concerned about their own online behaviour or that of a loved one to seek confidential help at the earliest opportunity. The Stop It Now helpline offers a safe, non-judgmental space for advice and support, aiming to reduce the risk of child sexual abuse through proactive measures.
