Rapist Sentenced to 10 Years for Bathroom Assault on Teenager
A 22-year-old man has been jailed for 10 years after raping a 17-year-old girl in a bathroom, in an attack described as showing no remorse. Mohammad Tawfiqi forced his way into the room while the victim was using the facilities at a friend's house in Stratford-upon-Avon, locking the door before carrying out the assault in 2024.
Details of the Twisted Attack
The court heard that the victim was visiting a friend's home when Tawfiqi, who went by the nickname Papino, entered the bathroom and attacked her. After the incident, Warwickshire Police launched an appeal to trace the suspect, leading to a member of the public identifying Tawfiqi, an Iranian national residing in the town at the time.
Officers swiftly arrested Tawfiqi at his workplace, as reported by Birmingham Live. During questioning, he attempted to deceive police by providing a false name and presented a pre-prepared statement denying any involvement in the crime.
Court Proceedings and Sentencing
With the victim's courageous support, a robust case was built against Tawfiqi. On Thursday, March 19, at Warwick Crown Court, he was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment on the same day. Detective Constable Ella Stewart praised the victim's bravery, stating, "The victim has shown incredible bravery throughout this process and I want to publicly thank her for all she has done."
She added, "Tawfiqi has shown no remorse for his appalling attack and, though no sentence will take away what happened, we are glad he is off the streets." The case highlights the importance of community cooperation in solving serious crimes and the resilience of victims in seeking justice.
