Madness frontman Graham 'Suggs' McPherson performed at a vigil for Finbar Sullivan, a 21-year-old filmmaking student fatally stabbed in a north London park. Hundreds attended the event on Primrose Hill on Sunday evening, where Suggs sang 'It Must Be Love' as balloons were released in Sullivan's memory.
Vigil Details
The vigil, held at the viewing point on Primrose Hill, drew famous faces including musician Paul Weller, Dexys Midnight Runners frontman Kevin Rowland, Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, and Sex Pistols bassist Glen Matlock. Dozens of candles, flowers, and photographs of Sullivan were placed at the park gates. Attendees sang some of his favorite songs and observed a minute's silence.
Finbar Sullivan's Background
Sullivan, known as Fin, was a student at the London Screen Academy. His father, Chris Sullivan, a club promoter who founded the Wag Club, said his son had gone to Primrose Hill to test a new camera he received for his birthday. Finbar aspired to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather, cameraman Michael Seresin, who worked on films such as 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban' and 'Rambo III'.
Father's Tribute
After the vigil, Chris Sullivan expressed gratitude for the turnout, saying, 'This is subsequent to my son being stabbed very near this spot to death... We decided to have a little tribute to him and get all these people together. I'm so impressed to see the diaspora of people, ages, races, colours and creeds, and they did us proud. I think Finbar's legacy should be that, unity and love and peace.' He described his son as 'full of jokes' and a 'really loving person', adding that Finbar had recently worked with Vivienne Westwood's son, Joe Corre, on a film.
Charges
Three men have been charged with Sullivan's murder: Ernest Boateng, 25; Alexis Bidace, 25; and Oliuwadamilola Ogunyankinnu, 27. A fourth man, Khalid Abdulqadir, 18, has been separately charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to a second alleged victim, violent disorder, and possession of a knife.
