Sydney Father and Son Stabbed by Neighbour in Front of Kids

A father and son were allegedly stabbed by their neighbour during a horrifying confrontation in front of traumatised children, leaving both victims requiring emergency surgery in a western Sydney hospital. Police were called to a residence on Palm Street in Girraween on Monday afternoon at approximately 3:30pm following reports of a violent stabbing incident.

Violent Altercation in Residential Backyard

Officers arriving at the scene were informed that three individuals had been involved in an alleged altercation, with two of them suffering multiple stab wounds to their torso. The victims have since been identified as Shane Hunt, aged 56, and his 30-year-old son, Shane Junior, both of whom were rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries requiring immediate surgical intervention.

CCTV Footage Reveals Terrifying Sequence

CCTV footage obtained by Nine News captured the chilling moments leading up to the attack, showing a man dressed in black clothing approaching the Girraween property. One of the Hunt men attempted to defend himself by arming with a chair, but neither father nor son could successfully fend off the alleged attacker, who repeatedly stabbed them in their own backyard.

During the violent episode, children were seen fleeing from the home in terror. A neighbour contacted emergency services after discovering the alleged victims covered in blood. "He was covered all over in blood and he was saying 'I've been stabbed and sliced'," neighbour Artheek Subrkamya recounted to reporters.

Alleged Attacker Charged with Attempted Murder

A 37-year-old man, who sustained injuries to his arms during the incident, was also transported to hospital before being arrested on Tuesday. He was taken to Granville Police Station where authorities charged him with two counts of attempted murder. The alleged attacker has been refused bail and is scheduled to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.

Family's Emotional Account of the Trauma

Shane Junior's sister, Leonie Hunt, shared harrowing details of the alleged incident through an emotional GoFundMe campaign established to support her family. "Both my dad and my brother were allegedly violently attacked in their own home by a neighbour who allegedly came onto our property and stabbed them," she claimed.

Ms Hunt explained that her father had just picked up the children from school when the attack occurred. "My dad was targeted, and my brother stepped in without hesitation to protect him and they both prevented him from reaching the young children inside," she wrote. "Instead they were exposed to something no child should ever have to witness."

The children were not physically harmed during the incident and managed to run to neighbouring homes to summon help. "We plan to help them emotionally recover from this traumatic event," Ms Hunt added, noting this was not the first concerning incident involving this particular neighbour. "We have had many alleged harassments, threats especially to our children. No one should have to live in fear in their own home."

Emotional Hospital Reunion After Surgery

Following their emergency surgeries, the father and son shared an emotional reunion in their hospital room. Footage showed the pair embracing while one lay in his hospital bed, both men covered in bandages with casts on their arms. The GoFundMe campaign has raised approximately $4,000 to assist with medical expenses, lost income during recovery, and other necessary support during their healing process.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the violent altercation as the Hunt family focuses on recovery from the physical and psychological trauma of the alleged neighbour attack in their Girraween home.
