Tributes are pouring in for a talented young footballer who tragically lost his life in a devastating flat fire in Southwark, London. Tommy Ballay-Dean, aged 16 and affectionately known as Junior Dean, died after a fire broke out in a first-floor flat on Cooper's Road on Wednesday afternoon.
Firefighters Battle Intense Blaze Near Fire Station
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) responded swiftly to the incident, deploying four fire engines and approximately 25 firefighters to tackle the flames in a six-storey building located next to the Old Kent Road Fire Station. According to LFB reports, the fire was brought under control by 4:30 pm, after crews from Dockhead, Dowgate, Shadwell, and Whitechapel fire stations worked tirelessly at the scene.
Another teenage boy managed to escape the property before the arrival of firefighters and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, as confirmed by the LFB on Thursday. The cause of the fire is currently under joint investigation by the LFB's Fire Investigation Unit and the Metropolitan Police.

Emergency Response Details
The LFB was alerted to the fire shortly before 3 pm on Wednesday. A 64-metre turntable ladder from Old Kent Road Fire Station was deployed, arriving at the scene within six minutes of the initial call. An LFB spokesperson added that another appliance from Old Kent Road had been attending a separate incident but returned to assist later.
