Two men have been taken into custody on suspicion of murder following a fatal stabbing incident in central London. The victim, identified as 26-year-old Farmanullah Sherzad, was attacked on Abbey Orchard Street in the Westminster area at approximately 10:15 PM on Friday evening.
Police Response and Investigation
Officers from the Metropolitan Police attended the scene promptly, where they administered first aid to Mr Sherzad before he was transported by the London Ambulance Service to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that he succumbed to multiple stab wounds.
Arrests and Ongoing Inquiry
As part of a fast-moving and complex murder investigation, police have arrested two individuals—an 18-year-old and a 21-year-old—on suspicion of murder. Both remain in custody while detectives continue their inquiries. Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley, who is leading the investigation, stated that these arrests represent significant progress in the case.
DCI Jolley expressed condolences, saying: 'We can now also name the victim as 26-year-old Farmanullah Sherzad. Our thoughts remain with his family as they continue to process this devastating loss.' The victim's family has been notified of his death.

To provide reassurance to the local community, police have announced that officers will conduct extra patrols in the Westminster area over the coming days. These officers will be available to speak with residents who may have concerns about the incident.
