Family's Heartbreak After Woman, 24, Dies in Police Chase Crash on A19

The devastated family of a young woman has spoken of their 'shattered hearts' after she was killed in a head-on collision during a high-speed police pursuit. Taylor Jenkins, a 24-year-old from Edinburgh, lost her life on March 1 when the white BMW she was travelling in as a passenger collided with a Volkswagen on the A19 dual carriageway near Sunderland.

An Unimaginable Tragedy

Her grieving relatives have described the loss as an 'unimaginable tragedy' that has 'left an indescribable emptiness in all of our lives'. In a heartfelt message on a GoFundMe page, the family wrote: 'On 1st March 2026, our hearts were shattered when our beautiful Taylor was tragically taken from us at just 24 years old.'

They continued: 'A young woman with her whole life ahead of her, Taylor was light, laughter and unconditional love. She had the kindest soul, the brightest smile, and an energy that filled every room she walked into. She was a devoted daughter, sister, partner, friend and colleague - and to know her was to love her.'

Fundraiser Launched for Funeral Costs

To help cover funeral expenses and related costs during this devastating time, the family has initiated a fundraising campaign. The appeal states: 'We are raising funds to support her family with funeral costs and related expenses during this devastating time. Every single penny raised will go directly to her family, easing the financial burden and allowing them to focus on grieving and honouring Taylor's life.'

They added: 'If Taylor ever touched your heart, made you smile, or was part of your life in any way, we kindly ask you to consider donating - no matter how small. Every contribution brings us closer to giving her the goodbye she deserves.' The family expressed that the support means 'more than words can express', signing off with: 'Forever 24. Forever Loved. Rest peacefully, beautiful girl.'

Details of the Fatal Incident

According to Northumbria Police, the fatal crash occurred when the BMW, which was being pursued by officers, drove on the wrong side of the road on the A19. Taylor Jenkins died at the scene. Another passenger in the BMW, a man in his 20s, was hospitalised in a life-threatening condition.

The BMW collided with a VW Sharan, whose driver required hospital treatment for non-serious injuries. The police chase and subsequent collision have prompted an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Legal Proceedings Underway

A 24-year-old man, Kane Farragher, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. South Tyneside Magistrates' Court heard allegations that he was driving in excess of 100mph on the wrong side of the road after failing to stop for a police vehicle.

Farragher did not enter a plea during the initial hearing and is scheduled to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on March 31 for further proceedings. The case continues as authorities seek to determine the full sequence of events leading to this tragic loss of life.
