A 37-year-old woman has been arrested following a series of alleged assaults on a delivery driver and two police officers in Walton, Liverpool. The incident unfolded this morning, prompting a significant police response and leaving the suspect with an arm injury.
Police Witness Attack on Delivery Driver
Merseyside Police officers were already in the County Road area of Walton on Sunday morning, conducting a separate investigation, when they reportedly witnessed a delivery driver being attacked. Uniformed officers in the vicinity quickly attended the scene and arrested a woman on suspicion of assault.
According to a force spokesperson, after being cautioned, the woman allegedly assaulted one of the officers and then attempted to flee the location. However, as she ran off, she tripped and caught her arm on a spiked, low metal fence surrounding the front door of a property on Church Road West.
Further Assault During Medical Assistance
Merseyside Police stated that the woman then allegedly went on to assault another officer who was attempting to administer first aid alongside a paramedic. The 37-year-old woman was subsequently taken to the hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment for her arm injury.
Alongside the initial assault allegation, she was further arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault on an emergency worker, highlighting the severity of the incident.
Scene Cordoned Off and Investigations Underway
Residents on Church Road West reported that the incident took place at around 11am. Upon arriving at the scene, journalists found a small stretch of the road cordoned off, covering approximately half a dozen houses on either side of the street.
Officers from two vehicles, including an unmarked car, were present, and a forensic officer from one of the force's scientific support units was conducting investigations on the pavement outside one of the properties.
Eyewitness Accounts of the Disturbance
Local residents provided vivid accounts of the commotion. One resident told reporters they became aware of the incident after they "heard shouting and screaming", adding that upon looking out of their front door they "saw someone lying on the ground in pain".
