Pope Leo has issued a powerful denunciation of global injustices, exploitation, oppression, and violence during his ongoing four-nation tour of Africa. Speaking to worshippers in Saurimo, near the border of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the pontiff asserted that such actions fundamentally contradict the Christian message of Christ's resurrection.
Outspoken Approach on Africa Tour
This tour marks a notably more vocal stance for Pope Leo, who has openly criticised what he termed 'despots and tyrants' and the exploitation of Africa's abundant natural resources. The ambitious 10-day journey has drawn enthusiastic crowds across the continent, with approximately 130,000 people attending two major events in Angola on Sunday alone.
Meeting with Controversial Leader
Pope Leo is set to conclude his tour in Equatorial Guinea, a nation frequently criticised for its repressive regime. There, he is scheduled to meet President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, highlighting the pontiff's engagement with challenging political landscapes.
In his latest forceful sermon, Pope Leo emphasised that people are being 'defrauded by the rich,' underscoring his commitment to addressing economic inequalities and social injustices on a global scale.
