Olympic swimming champion Adam Peaty was moved to tears as he watched his bride, Holly Ramsay, walk down the aisle during their lavish wedding ceremony at Bath Abbey on Saturday. The star-studded event, one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings of the year, saw the couple tie the knot in front of a host of famous faces, though notably absent were most of the groom's family.
An Emotional Ceremony and A-List Guests
The service at the historic Bath Abbey was described as "beautiful" by guest Sara Davies, the Dragons' Den investor who became firm friends with Peaty when they were paired on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021. Davies shared an intimate glimpse of the day on Instagram, revealing the groom's emotional state. "It was a real honour to sit in Bath Abbey and watch him get emotional as the love of his life walked down the aisle," she wrote.
Davies also praised the wedding extravaganza, calling it "hands down the best wedding food I've ever had." The high-profile guest list included David and Victoria Beckham, as well as the bride's father, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay. The couple, who met through Holly's sister Tilly during the 2021 series of Strictly, emerged from the abbey hand-in-hand, beaming for photographers.
A Bittersweet Day Amid Family Absence
Despite the opulent celebration, the day was marked by a significant omission. Almost all of Adam Peaty's side of the family were not in attendance, with only his sister, Bethany, present. This followed an ongoing feud which resulted in his parents and other relatives being uninvited from the wedding.
His mother, Caroline Peaty, watched the event unfold from the family home in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. Speaking to the Mail, she expressed a mixture of sadness and well-wishes. "As a mother, all you want your children to do is be happy in their relationships," she said. "It's their wedding, yes, it's a happy day - but it needs to be said... I want them to have the best day."
She added a poignant message for her son: "Just because you love somebody and that love is intense, don't forget the other people around you. A wedding day is such a happy event, and I think family should have been the priority at that wedding."
A Friendship Forged on the Dancefloor
The presence of Sara Davies highlighted the lasting bonds formed during Peaty's time on Strictly Come Dancing. In her social media tribute, Davies reflected on their four-year friendship, stating she felt "lucky" to have him in her life. The wedding, which had been months in the planning, ultimately served as both a joyous union and a public spotlight on the personal complexities behind the celebrity spectacle.
