Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has delivered a heartbreaking health update, confessing she is struggling to eat following her recent breast cancer surgery. The beloved actress, aged 68, shared the emotional details in a candid Instagram video, where she appeared tired and pale, updating fans on her gruelling recovery journey.
Husband Jon Force-Feeding Her Amid Appetite Loss
In the video, Beverley revealed that her fourth husband, Jon McEwan, whom she married in 2010, has been "force-feeding" her as she battles a complete loss of appetite. She explained, "I have no appetite whatsoever—but I'm trying." This admission came on her fourth day post-operation, a procedure she underwent on February 20 to remove lymph nodes as a precautionary measure to ensure the cancer had not spread.
Fears About Appearance and Recovery
Beverley opened up about her deep-seated fears regarding her appearance post-surgery. She expressed, "I'm not in pain, I'm really sore under my arm and I still have dressings on. I don't know what I look like, and I'm scared of that." The actress voiced concerns about her attractiveness and intimacy with her husband, wondering, "Will John and I still be swinging from the chandeliers? Will I still be attractive or not? All that's going through my head."
Despite these worries, she maintained a note of optimism, stating, "I'm doing OK. I'm doing OK." Beverley has a hospital appointment scheduled to determine if a second operation is necessary, adding a layer of uncertainty to her recovery process.
Previous Cancer Battle and Diagnosis
This is not Beverley's first encounter with cancer. At the age of 32, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, which she successfully overcame. She drew strength from this past experience, telling fans, "I beat it then, and I can do it again." Her breast cancer was luckily caught in the early stages, as she revealed earlier this month, and she has been inspired to speak out by "strong, feisty women."
Career and Recent Updates
Beverley Callard shot to fame as the feisty Rovers Return landlady Liz McDonald on Coronation Street, joining the soap in 1989 and leaving in 2020 after three decades. She recently joined the iconic Irish soap Fair City. Her decision to leave Coronation Street was driven by a desire to explore other roles and combat ageism in the industry.
In her health update, Beverley admitted she had been "completely knackered" and unable to post the previous day, napping on and off and even struggling to comb her hair. Her openness about her struggles has resonated with fans, highlighting the harsh realities of cancer recovery.
