Royal Biographer Brands Brooklyn Beckham a 'Victim' of Parental Manipulation
Royal biographer Tom Bower has delivered a stark assessment of the escalating public rift within the Beckham family, characterising Brooklyn Beckham as a "victim" who has been "used and manipulated" by his famous parents, David and Victoria. The author's intervention follows Brooklyn's own explosive social media statement, in which he accused his parents of attempting to control the narrative and made serious allegations regarding their conduct.
Bower's Verdict on the Family Fallout
Speaking candidly on Good Morning Britain, Bower, who penned the 2024 exposé The House of Beckham: Money, Sex and Power, expressed sympathy for the 26-year-old. "He's been used and manipulated. I feel very sorry for him," Bower told hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid. "That's why I feel for Brooklyn, finally he's exploded." Bower suggested that Brooklyn's marriage into the Peltz family has provided him with a contrasting experience of normality.
"He's now living with a normal family, I think the Peltz's are a good family, they are hard working," Bower remarked. "He's a victim, a young man now of 26 who has been through the mill and in the end, he's done nothing wrong, his parents have because they have used their children to build a brand."
Comparisons to Royal Drama and Allegations of a 'Business Marriage'
The biographer drew a direct parallel between Brooklyn's situation and that of Prince Harry, who famously stepped back from royal duties. Bower levelled heavy criticism at the Beckhams' parenting and their relationship dynamic, alleging it functions more as a commercial enterprise than a traditional family unit.
"In the end, he didn't get an education, was wheeled out for photo opportunities," Bower stated, also referencing Brooklyn's younger sister, Harper. "Brooklyn witnessed an extraordinary marriage ever since the allegations of Rebecca Loos, it has been a business marriage more than a normal marriage and a normal home."
Speculation Over a Future Book Deal and Marital Strain
Bower also addressed widespread speculation that Brooklyn has been offered a lucrative book deal to tell his side of the story, expressing certainty that such an offer exists. "He will certainly have been offered a book deal, there is no doubt. He's got an agent," Bower claimed. "People with money always want more money, but also, he has an extraordinary story to tell. The affairs, the breakdown of the marriage, it has been a commercial marriage that everyone has bought into. The happy family."
Regarding the impact on David and Victoria's own relationship, a separate source recently indicated the saga is applying significant pressure. "This is putting a strain on them, but Victoria has told David she won’t let this destroy them," the source claimed. "This is the biggest test they’ve ever had, but they will survive it because they are strong."
The Spark: Brooklyn's Viral Allegations
The current public feud was ignited last week when Brooklyn posted a lengthy statement to his Instagram account. In it, he described a deeply humiliating incident at his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, accusing his mother of hijacking a planned romantic first dance.
"My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife... in front of our 500 wedding guests," Brooklyn wrote. "She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I've never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life." He added that he and Nicola wished to renew their vows to create positive new memories, replacing those of "anxiety and embarrassment."
