Hollywood star Channing Tatum has seemingly removed the final poignant symbol of his marriage to ex-wife Jenna Dewan, following the conclusion of their protracted and bitter divorce battle.
The End of a Symbolic Bond
The 45-year-old Magic Mike actor was photographed enjoying a romantic beach getaway in Costa Rica with his 26-year-old girlfriend, model Inka Williams. During the loved-up display, it became apparent that the matching tattoo he once shared with Dewan was no longer visible on his ribcage.
The couple, who met on the set of the 2006 film Step Up, tied the knot in 2009. For their honeymoon in Bali, they decided to mark their union with symbolic matching ink. The tattoos bore the phrase 'Side by side', a line taken directly from their wedding vows. Tatum had his inked along his ribs, while Dewan placed hers on her foot.
"We always wanted to get a tattoo of something together," Tatum told People magazine in 2012. "We weren't going to do each other's names. We wanted to do something symbolic. It was in one of our vows to each other."
A Drawn-Out Divorce and Financial Settlement
The marriage ended in April 2018, with Dewan filing for divorce later that year. Although declared legally single in November 2019, the financial settlement dragged on for years. A major sticking point was the profits from Tatum's hit 2012 film, Magic Mike.
Dewan contended she was owed half, arguing the film was financed with marital funds. According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail and finalised in late 2024, the former spouses have now settled. The agreement stipulates that Dewan will receive 50 percent of Tatum's Screen Actors Guild producers’ pension plan for earnings between 2009 and 2018. In turn, Tatum receives the same percentage from Dewan's plan for that period.
Prior to the settlement, Tatum accused Dewan's legal team of delaying proceedings and failing to disclose all financial information related to Magic Mike. The conflict was so intense that director Steven Soderbergh and Dewan's now-fiancé, Steve Kazee, were considered as potential witnesses.
Moving On: New Relationships and Families
Both stars have firmly moved on with their personal lives. Jenna Dewan has been in a relationship with stage star Steve Kazee since late 2018. The couple got engaged in February 2020 and have two children together: son Callum, born in March 2020, and daughter Rhiannon, born in June 2024.
Following the split, Channing Tatum dated singer Jessie J from 2018 to 2020, before a subsequent engagement to actress Zoë Kravitz. That relationship ended in 2024. He is now publicly dating Australian model Inka Williams, who is 19 years his junior.
The removal of the 'Side by side' tattoo serves as a physical full stop to a chapter that began on a Bali honeymoon and concluded in a complex legal settlement, allowing both actors to look firmly to the future.
