Cher Seeks Legal Control Over Son Elijah Blue Allman Following Multiple Arrests
Music icon Cher has filed a petition for a conservatorship to take control of her son Elijah Blue Allman's estate, marking the second time she has sought legal guardianship over his affairs. This latest legal move comes in the wake of multiple arrests involving the 49-year-old son of Cher and the late Allman Brothers founder Gregg Allman.
Recent Arrests and Psychiatric Hospitalisation
Elijah Blue Allman is currently being held in a locked psychiatric hospital in New Hampshire, according to court documents obtained by Page Six. This hospitalisation is reportedly an attempt to restore him to competency so he can face criminal charges across two New Hampshire counties. The charges include felony burglary, criminal mischief, simple assault, criminal trespass, and breach of bail.
Allman was arrested twice within a three-day period recently. His initial arrest occurred after he allegedly caused a disturbance at a private school with which he had no affiliation. Just days later, he was arrested again in Windham, New Hampshire, for allegedly breaking into a home.
History of Conservatorship Efforts and Alleged Issues
Cher previously filed for a conservatorship in December 2023, arguing at that time that Allman could not manage his own financial resources or take care of himself due to alleged drug abuse problems. Allman responded to that initial filing by insisting he had been "clean and sober from illicit substances for over 90 days," prompting Cher to withdraw the legal proceedings.
However, in her new court filing, Cher contends that her son's life has "significantly deteriorated since a prior conservatorship petition was filed." She alleges that Allman "has no concept of money, is unable to manage his financial resources and is unable to withstand fraud or undue influence" because of what she describes as "severe mental health and addiction issues."
Financial Concerns and Spending Patterns
According to the court documents, Allman receives an annual allowance of $120,000 from his late father's trust. Cher alleges that he spends almost this entire amount on "drugs, expensive hotels and limousine transportation." She describes a clear pattern in his behavior: "After he receives his trust distribution, he checks into a hotel, usually the Chateau Marmont, buys and does drugs until he runs out of money, ends up in the hospital or overdoses."
Cher argues that based on this established pattern, if Allman were to receive his trust distribution, he would use it to purchase drugs. She maintains that a conservatorship has become "appropriate" as her son's "situation has become dire on multiple fronts. His mental health has severely deteriorated, his financial situation is terrible and his drug dependency is at its worst."
The Independent has approached Cher's representatives for comment regarding the latest conservatorship filing and the allegations contained within the court documents.
