Hilary Duff has openly confessed to deliberately crashing the premiere of her "childhood nemesis" Lindsay Lohan's film Freaky Friday back in 2003. The former child stars, who were embroiled in a highly publicised feud during the early 2000s, have since reconciled, as Duff revealed in a recent podcast interview.
The Intentional Premiere Crash
Appearing on the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Duff, now 38, was directly questioned about whether she intentionally showed up at the Freaky Friday premiere to bother Lohan, who starred in the movie. "I think absolutely yes. I was a teenager," the Lizzie McGuire actor candidly replied. She explained that she was invited by their mutual co-star Chad Michael Murray, stating, "I don't wanna start any more stuff, but, like, he was like, 'You should come with me.' And I was like, 'Mhmm. Probably I should.'"
Roots of the Feud
The well-documented rivalry between Duff and Lohan originated from a messy love triangle involving the late Aaron Carter, whom both stars dated simultaneously in the early 2000s. When asked if she was surprised that Lohan later attended the premiere of Duff's family comedy Cheaper by the Dozen months afterwards, Duff responded, "No. I mean, that was, like, my childhood nemesis." Laughing, she added, "I'm sure my publicist will be like, what the f*** are you doing? But now it's so many years later. Like, who cares? It does not matter."
Burying the Hatchet
Duff revealed that she and Lohan have since made amends, putting their past conflicts behind them. "Lindsay came up to me at a club once and was like, 'Are we good?' and I was like, 'We're good.' She was like, 'Let's take a shot,'" Duff recalled. This moment marked a significant turning point in their relationship, transitioning from rivals to reconciled acquaintances.
Reflecting on the Past
Duff also addressed the beginning of their feud, attributing part of the misunderstanding to the absence of social media at the time. "There was no social media to be like, who was dating who?" Duff said. "You just take people's word for it and then people get mad at you. I mean if you're, like, Lindsay Lohan or me, he's, like, probably dating both of us, like, you know what I mean?" This reflection highlights how communication gaps in the pre-social media era could fuel celebrity conflicts.
Duff's Current Endeavours
Earlier this month, Duff, who rose to fame in 2001 for her lead role in Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire series and its subsequent spinoff film, released her first album in over a decade. Titled luck... or something, the new record has generated considerable excitement among fans eagerly awaiting her return to music. In support of the album, Duff announced she will embark on a world tour, kicking off her Lucky Me tour in West Palm Beach, Florida, this June. The tour will continue to major U.S. cities, including New York City, Los Angeles, and her hometown of Houston, before expanding to Europe, Australia, Canada, and Mexico.
