Gemma Collins Shares Emotional Journey in New Documentary Series

Reality television star Gemma Collins has opened up about what she describes as a 'real nightmare' year, detailing her struggles with her mother's health, IVF treatment, and wedding planning in her upcoming Sky Max series. The 45-year-old Essex personality revealed that the documentary, titled 'Four Weddings and a Baby', offers an unfiltered look at her personal life during a period of immense turmoil.

A Year of Trauma and Vulnerability

Speaking at a Sky event in London, Collins explained to host Dermot O'Leary that the series captures her at her most vulnerable. "During making the show my mum nearly died, my relationship was obviously taking a bit of a hit, I was trying to have a baby - my whole world just fell apart," she confessed. "Because I was going through so much trauma and struggles, there was no performative person there. Everyone gets to see the real me - you're in my home. It's what people don't see. I was broken."

Collins emphasized that this project differs significantly from her previous appearances on shows like 'The Only Way Is Essex'. "I'm used to being very performative. The camera goes on, The GC comes out, boomshackalack, that's really how it is," she said. "But this is a show where I'm trying to have a baby, I'm trying to get married and none of it goes smooth. It's a nightmare. But it's not a comical nightmare it's a real nightmare."

Family Health Crisis and Emotional Struggles

The series documents a particularly distressing period when Collins' mother, Joan, 70, was hospitalized with pneumonia and fluid buildup. In one emotional clip, Collins is seen weeping while driving, explaining to the camera: "My mum has suffered with chronic illness for 10 years. This is not my first rodeo with her. However, this one has to be the worst. It's making me realise that mum might not have a lot of time left."

Collins revealed that her mother has since moved into her home and receives regular care from professional carers. "I'm just so grateful for every day I get to spend with her," she said, highlighting the profound impact of her mother's health struggles on her own life decisions.

IVF Journey and Wedding Plans

Viewers will follow Collins' attempts to conceive through IVF with her fiancé Rami Hawash, alongside their efforts to organize their wedding. The process has been fraught with emotional challenges, as Collins admitted in another clip: "Having a baby is not easy. You don't want to be making the wrong decisions in your life. Then I think f*** it - if mum hasn't got long left - do I just spend my life with my mum, you know? And then just not have a baby, not get married."

Collins described the series as an exercise in vulnerability and honesty, stating: "It's me not having any control over my life, any control over the cameras. It's very raw. Family have always been everything to me, which people haven't seen, but I think it's OK to show people you are human? Nothing's perfect, life's not perfect and maybe that will resonate."

Additional Content and Personal Challenges

The series also includes footage of Collins preparing for her second stint on 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here', where she confronts her fear of snakes with the help of a professional snake-handler. Despite assurances that she wouldn't be given "anything that's going to hurt you," Collins becomes visibly distressed when a snake flicks its tail into her face, leading to a panicked reaction.

'Four Weddings and a Baby' is scheduled to launch on Sky Max later this year, promising viewers an intimate and unvarnished portrait of Collins' personal struggles and triumphs during one of the most challenging periods of her life.
