TV Chef Gizzi Erskine Announces Engagement After Valentine's Day Surprise

Television chef Gizzi Erskine, a familiar face from ITV's This Morning and the creative force behind a restaurant in east London, has joyfully accepted a marriage proposal from her partner, musician Matt Turner. The romantic moment unfolded on Valentine's Day, marking a significant milestone in their nearly four-year relationship.

A Stunning Proposal During a Casual Walk

The 46-year-old restaurateur was completely taken aback when Turner, during what seemed like an ordinary stroll, dropped to one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. Erskine described the surprise on Instagram, sharing that they had gone out for a walk in her pyjamas to make wishes on ley lines, only for Turner to pretend to tie his shoe and produce an engagement ring.

She expressed her disbelief and happiness in a heartfelt post, writing, "Went out for a walk in my PJs to make wish on some laylines, then while we were wishing, he bent over to 'tie up his shoe' and pulled out a rock. WTAF." She added, "I’m getting Married to the love of my life. I can’t believe it."

Instagram Reveals the Joyful Moment

Erskine posted two photos on Instagram capturing the immediate aftermath of the proposal. The images show the couple beaming under blue skies, wearing sunglasses, with a prominent ring visible on Erskine's hand. One photo features her raising her hand to the camera, while another shows Turner planting an affectionate kiss on her cheek.

The post garnered widespread congratulations from fans and celebrities alike. Model Daisy Lowe commented, "Oh sweetheart!!! happiest news!!! Congratulations," and Lisa Snowden shared red heart emojis in support.

Personalised Ring and Relationship Background

In her Instagram Stories, Erskine revealed that the engagement ring was a custom piece by Tessa Metcalfe, commissioned by Turner who had remembered a hint she made years ago about her preferences. She praised his thoughtfulness, stating, "He did good."

Erskine, who comes from an aristocratic background as the daughter of the late 2nd Baron Erskine of Rerrick and previously ran a pizza business with Professor Green, has been open about her journey. In a past interview with Grazia magazine, she discussed how her life faced challenges during the pandemic, including business failures and selling her home, but she rebuilt her career and found happiness with Turner.

She reflected on her current state, saying, "Now I’m in a positive financial situation again and, mentally, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. I have managed to build a strong relationship with my partner [Matt], too."

The couple, who met online and have been together for almost four years, reside in East London. Erskine serves as the Creative Director of the Marestreet Market restaurant and bar in Shoreditch, balancing her culinary career with her newfound engagement bliss.
