Helen Flanagan's Travelodge Drama: Actress Claims Staff Threatened Police Action

Former Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan has launched a scathing public criticism of hotel chain Travelodge through a series of Instagram posts, alleging that a staff member threatened to call the police when she slept past her designated checkout time. The 35-year-old actress, currently starring as Princess Jill in the Mother Goose Easter Panto theatre tour, detailed the uncomfortable incident that occurred during her stay in Northampton.

The Interrupted Lie-In That Sparked Controversy

Following Monday night's performance in Mansfield, Flanagan and her theatre colleagues travelled to Northampton and checked into a Travelodge hotel in preparation for their Tuesday show in the town. However, what should have been a restful night turned into a confrontation when hotel staff discovered the actress had overslept beyond the standard 12pm checkout time.

"I literally woke up to this woman at 12 o'clock banging on my door, telling me to open the door," Flanagan explained in her Instagram video from outside the Northampton branch. "I went 'oh hi sorry'. She said 'checkout is at 12'. I said 'sorry I didn't know, I'll just have a quick shower and go'. She said 'no you can't have a shower, you need to get out now before I ring the police.'"

Emotional Response and Period-Related Stress

In subsequent videos, an emotional Flanagan revealed that fellow cast member Matt Wright had to intervene and "came to save me" from the escalating situation. The actress appeared teary-eyed as she explained her heightened emotional state, attributing it to menstrual cycle timing and separation from her children.

"The reason why I'm crying is because I'm due on my period and I don't like being away from my kids," she shared with her followers. "All I need is a bit of respect, not to be woken up in the morning when I'm trying to have a lie-in and told to get out and I can't have a shower."

The situation reportedly worsened when Flanagan discovered there were no shower facilities available at the theatre venue, compounding her frustration about being denied basic amenities after the hotel confrontation.

Travelodge's Official Response and Ongoing Investigation

A Travelodge spokesperson addressed the incident in a statement to the Daily Mail, confirming: "We are sorry to hear that Helen was disappointed with her stay. We have reached out to her directly and are speaking with the hotel team to understand what happened on this occasion." The hotel chain has initiated direct communication with Flanagan while conducting an internal review of the Northampton branch's procedures.

Balancing Professional Commitments and Personal Life

The Travelodge incident occurred during a particularly busy period for Flanagan, who is currently juggling multiple professional responsibilities. Beyond her theatre tour commitments, the actress is managing parenting duties alongside promotional work for her upcoming television appearance on Celebrity Ex On The Beach.

The Paramount+ reality series will feature Flanagan alongside notable personalities including TOWIE's Dani Imbert, Jedward's John Grimes, and Love Island star Toby Aromolaran. Filmed in Tenerife, the explosive dating format will see participants confronting former romantic partners, potentially including Flanagan's ex-fiancé Scott Sinclair or former boxer David Haye.

Recent Personal History and Future Relationship Goals

Flanagan's 13-year relationship with footballer Scott Sinclair ended in 2022, with the former couple sharing three children. Earlier this year, the actress revealed in her autobiography Head & Heart that she had fallen "deeply in love" with former world champion boxer David Haye, though their romance proved complicated.

Now embarking on another public search for romance following her previous appearance on Celebs Go Dating, Flanagan has expressed her preference for settling down with someone in the public eye. The actress admitted to concerns about being taken advantage of outside the celebrity spotlight, highlighting the unique challenges faced by public figures in personal relationships.

The upcoming Celebrity Ex On The Beach series will also feature Married At First Sight UK star Amy Kenyon and Love Is Blind contestant Freddie Powell, with comedian Daisy May Cooper joining as the programme's new narrator. Meanwhile, Flanagan continues her theatre tour while navigating the aftermath of her Travelodge experience and maintaining her various professional commitments.
