Hilary Duff Opens Up About Intimacy and Aging in Candid Interview
In a remarkably frank new interview with the Los Angeles Times, former child star Hilary Duff has revealed that her sex life has only improved with age. The 38-year-old actress and singer admitted that she spent much of her twenties still trying to figure things out behind closed doors, but now feels far more confident and knowledgeable.
From Uncertainty to Confidence
'I finally feel like I know a lot about sex,' Duff declared while promoting her upcoming album Luck... or Something. 'My whole 20s, sex was not always enjoyable. There was so much to figure out. Now, I finally understand it.'
The former Lizzie McGuire star suggested that this significant shift likely stems from increased confidence and accumulated experience. She quipped humorously about societal expectations: 'Maybe that's a female thing, but I'm not ready to be put out to pasture.'
New Album Explores Mature Themes
Duff's new record, Luck... or Something, marks her first album release in over a decade and delves deeply into themes of love, maturity, intimacy, and self-reflection. Last month, she generated considerable attention with the release of her unapologetically racy single Roommates, which features explicit lyrics that quickly sparked widespread conversation online.
The chorus includes eyebrow-raising lines about late nights, dive bars, and secret hookups—a stark departure from the squeaky-clean image many fans first associated with the Disney Channel alum. In the song, she sings candidly about sexual encounters and relationship dynamics, with lyrics that reflect a newfound artistic boldness.
Addressing Society's Fixation on Women Aging
Now a mother of four, Duff also addressed society's often problematic fixation on women aging, particularly those who grew up in the public spotlight. 'People come up to me all the time and they're like, "Wow, you aged really well,"' she shared. 'I'm like, "I'm only 38! Just because you've known me since I was 9…"'
She added with a laugh, reflecting on generational differences in appearance: 'When do I start getting the discounts? I feel like 38 is not old, although when I thought about my parents at 40, they looked so different than we look now.'
Personal Life and Family
Duff and her husband, musician Matthew Koma, met in 2015 while collaborating on her album Breathe In. Breathe Out. They got engaged four years later and tied the knot in December 2019 during a private ceremony at their Los Angeles home.
In a 2021 interview with People, Duff explained their enduring connection: 'We knew we just had to be together because we tried a bunch of times to be apart, and that didn't work out for either one of us.'
Duff shares three daughters—Banks, seven, Mae, four, and Townes, 21 months—with Koma. She is also mother to son Luca, 13, from her previous marriage to Mike Comrie.
Through her music and public statements, Hilary Duff is clearly embracing a more confident, self-assured chapter of her life, challenging stereotypes about aging while celebrating personal growth and artistic evolution.
