Amanda Holden has revealed the simple but shrewd clue that told her close friend Alan Carr had triumphed on The Celebrity Traitors long before the result was broadcast. The Britain's Got Talent judge deduced his success from an unusual two-week silence during filming last spring.
The Telltale Silence That Revealed Everything
Holden, 54, explained that comedian and presenter Carr, 49, typically calls her every single day. When he suddenly went off-radar for a fortnight during the production of the BBC reality show, she immediately became suspicious. Filming for the celebrity edition took place at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, with participants isolated from the outside world.
"I knew he must have done well because I didn't speak to him for two weeks, normally we speak every day," Holden stated. Although Carr was contractually forbidden from revealing any outcomes, Holden's intuition told her he had at least performed strongly on the programme. Her hunch proved correct when Carr ultimately won the series, which aired in November last year.
A New Generation of Fans Through TikTok
The actress and presenter, who stars with Carr in the property renovation series Amanda And Alan's Greek Job, expressed amusement at his recent surge in popularity. She noted that while Carr has been a beloved figure in entertainment for years, his Traitors victory has introduced him to a whole new audience.
"He's been around for so long, but everyone's suddenly like, 'Oh, I love Alan Carr'," Holden remarked. She shared an anecdote involving her daughter, Holly, who said everyone was asking about Carr. Holden's response highlighted his long-standing presence in their family life: "You've met Alan, he was in the back garden at our party, and you weren't bothered about him then."
She credited the wave of TikTok videos and memes from the show with bringing him to a younger generation, calling the phenomenon "lovely."
Would Amanda Holden Join The Traitors?
When asked if she would consider appearing on a future series of The Celebrity Traitors, Holden hinted she would only participate under specific conditions. Carr himself has said she would be "great" on the show.
"I do love the cloak," she admitted to the Radio Times, joking she could customise it with a red lip to look like "the woman from the Scottish Widows advert." However, she expressed a strong desire to be a Traitor rather than a Faithful, stating: "They'd make me a faithful though, and that's boring. You don't remember the faithfuls."
She also pointed out a practical scheduling conflict, noting that filming for the show would clash with her long-standing role as a judge on Britain's Got Talent, a position she has held since the show launched in 2007.
In the celebrated final of The Celebrity Traitors, Alan Carr successfully deceived fellow contestants, comedian Nick Mohammed and historian David Olusoga, to claim the entire £87,500 prize pot. He donated his winnings to the cancer charity Neuroblastoma UK.
