ITV's Saturday Morning host James Martin has offered a rare glimpse into his personal life, discussing a domestic 'request' from his girlfriend, Kim Johnson. This comes amidst widespread speculation that the couple have become engaged after nearly two years together.
A Sweet Kitchen Concession
The 53-year-old celebrity chef, famed for his enviable kitchen on the ITV show, shared that he swiftly obliged when his 39-year-old partner asked for a culinary upgrade. The request followed a bread-making course Kim attended, hosted by renowned Breton baker Richard Bertinet.
Writing in his column for Woman's Weekly, Martin explained the chain of events. "My girlfriend went on a Richard Bertinet course to learn how to make bread," he said. "She had a fantastic day and came back not only as a baker, but requesting I get a new electric mixer – so I did." His kitchen, a regular feature on television, is now equipped with yet another modern convenience.
Reports of a Romantic U-Turn
This domestic insight arrives hot on the heels of claims that Martin, who had previously been adamant he would never marry, has proposed to the personal trainer. A source close to the couple spoke to The Sun about the apparent change of heart.
"Of course it’s taken James decades to finally get there and friends do share a wry smile that he’s U-turned on his staunch refusal to ever marry," the insider revealed. "But everyone has seen the change in him since meeting Kim and he’s never been happier. They are a wonderful couple."
A Changed Man Since Meeting Kim
The transformation in Martin's outlook is said to be profound, especially when contrasted with his previous long-term relationship. He was with TV producer Louise Davies for 12 years before they separated in December 2023.
Another source suggested last October that this newfound openness might be difficult for his ex-partner. "He's a changed man now he's met her," they stated. "He used to be fiercely private about his love life. It will be very hard for Louise when Kim gets a huge diamond ring on her finger."
While neither Martin nor Johnson have publicly confirmed an engagement, the chef's candid admission about their home life and the consistent reports from friends paint a picture of a man thoroughly content in his relationship.
James Martin's Saturday Morning continues to air on ITV1 and ITVX.
